For those of you keeping up to date with the Smoke Free Lewisville group, we had a great conversation several orginizations this past week and they're excited about Lewisville residents taking up the charge. We also spoke with the Relay for Life folks here in Lewisville including Laura Patrey. If you don't know about the Relay for Life, it's an awesome event held in the Spring (May 14-15, 2010).
Lewisville's Relay for Life team has been around since 1998 and last year they raised 74,000 dollars to help fight cancer. This was an increase of 24,000 from their previous year and based on the energy of the group I met with, they're going to have another banner year. They're discussing sharing some booth space with the Smoke Free Lewisville team during Holiday at the Hall on December, 5th. Now of course this wouldn't be the third week of November without some sort of 'what I'm thankful for' list. Well y'all know I do things a bit differently. I'm thankful for finally figuring out how Thanksgiving works around my wife's family- whoever whines the most and puts up the most fuss about what they won't eat, gets the dinner they want. Now, generally I'm an amicable soul, I'll really eat just about anything but I enjoy cooking and eating flavorful food. Unfortunately, my wife's family is 'flavor averse'. They'll be the first to tell you. So Thanksgiving becomes a race to the bland. Chestnuts- nope. Oysters- no way. Mashed potatoes done with chicken broth and herbs- 3 lbs of butter and a gallon of whole milk glue please. Stuffing with anything other than eggs and stale white bread soaked in milk with a tablespoon of poultry seasoning- we like our salmonella soupy, thank you very much. For those of you who follow me on Facebook you know this is killing me. So this year, this year I'm taking a stand. I'm going to make faces, and groan, and sigh and just plain refuse to eat bland. I'll let you know how it turns out. My next of kin have been notified. Make it a great Thanksgiving. My children and I are volunteering at FUMC for their city wide Thanksgiving Dinner. It's free to everyone in the community.
